Meet A KonMari Consultant in Training: Winter Yim

Today I wanted to introduce you to a KonMari Consultant in Training: Winter Yim. I first met Winter in-person in June of 2025 in Boston. As I’ve said on this blog before, there is a wonderful network of Consultants across the globe, and our goal is truly to support each other and celebrate each others’ successes. I learn so much when talking to others within the KonMari world, and this interview with Winter was no different!

Meet Winter Yim, a KonMari Consultant-in-Training!

How did the Lifechanging Magic of Tidying Up come into your life?

I don’t remember exactly when I got the book, but it was years before I actually picked it up in 2022. I had moved into a new apartment, and even though it was peaceful and homey, I still felt a sense of chaos – both internal and external. My bedroom often lived in a state of mess. My kitchen cupboards felt impossible to wrangle. But when I started reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, things began to shift.

What did you learn (or rediscover) about yourself when you went through your own Tidying Festival?

When I started my Tidying Festival, I was struggling with my mental health and was unemployed – and had been for months. I had been someone who tied their self-worth to their work and job, and without those, I felt lost. But my Tidying Festival helped me rediscover my sense of self-worth outside of work.

I rediscovered hobbies I had abandoned, built daily routines and habits, and found creative ways to support myself around the house (e.g. using a cardboard box on top of my regular desk to create a standing desk).

Winter’s tarot & spiritual activities which they note, “tidying helped me with by clearing the clutter in my head!”

I love this emphasis on rediscovering your self-worth! What did you let go of that wasn't just physical clutter?

I let go of the expectation of perfection. Things have to get a little messy before they can get organized, and living with that messiness can be uncomfortable. But living with the discomfort was a huge lesson, and it applies to things outside of organizing and clutter. I let go of some fear around trying new things and seeking out new life experiences.

The idea that things have to get messy before they get organized is such a great life lesson. What is the one thing you wish everyone knew about the KonMari Method that isn't just about 'neatly folded socks’?

While neatly folded socks are also great, there’s so much more to the KonMari Method to love! I wish everyone knew that it focuses on choosing what to keep, not what to get rid of. I think that approach creates a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity, and it allows us to center joy in the process.

Yes to all of that!
What is your favorite KonMari category to organize with clients?

Clothing! I love getting to help people create a wardrobe they truly love and that sparks joy. It can be hard to let go of clothing, especially those that hold some sentiment or might fit “someday,” so it’s important to approach this and all categories with empathy and compassion. I thrift a lot of my clothing and like putting together outfits, so this is always a fun category for me and I hope for the client, too!

What advice would you give to someone who is considering becoming a KonMari Consultant but is on the fence?

Consider the reasons you want to become a KonMari Consultant. For me, I wanted to work for myself and to help people feel a sense of physical and mental clarity in their homes and their lives. Whatever your reasons are, these motivations need to be strong enough to carry you through not only the course, but the start of creating your business and getting clients. This is a hard thing to do, and it’s important to be able to revisit the reasons you first started.

Great advice! Lastly, if someone is interested in getting in touch with you, how can they reach you?

You can email me at hello@betterdwellings.co and check out my website at www.betterdwellings.co! I serve most of Middlesex and Essex counties in Massachusetts in person, including but not limited to Acton, MA; Andover, MA; Concord, MA; Lawrence, MA; Lowell, MA; Nashua, NH; and Westford, MA. I'm available for virtual tidying from anywhere!

Thank you, Winter, for letting me highlight your journey! It is truly a joy to get to know others within the KonMari world and share their stories and experiences with others.
